Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one victories have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time mentor Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.

It is his initial title after the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted commentators to question if his capacity to compete at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden professional title, seized the initiative to create a decider.

The opponent rescued four early chances in a close third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
